False shunt
by admin on Aug.29, 2009, under Friends-SMVRR, SMVRR

The Library Train (Aug 20, 2009)

Back in college days, if you had some studying to do, you headed for the library. Not being in college any more, but still having some railroad related studying to do and having some unused Amtrak tickets in the drawer, the answer was obvious… Turn the Surfliner into a study hall. I road down and back to Union Station in Los Angeles (from SLO), had lunch at Traxx, got all my reading done, and took a few pictures. Friends of the Santa Maria Valley Railroad had a booth today at the Goleta Railroad Days. Activities included handcar rides, tour of the agent’s residence, 7.5″ gauge train rides, exhibits by Amtrak, Operation Lifesaver, etc., and the first public appearance of Ken Kelley’s very cool model of the Santa Barbara train station.
