Norgrove Railway

We had a great time at Norgrove Railway today. I won an auction item at the SLO Railroad Museum for a private tour of Norgrove which we managed to squeeze in while we were in California. It’s a brand-spankin’ new 600mm (just under 2′) gauge railroad being built near Highway 101 that winds through a vineyard and citrus orchard, focusing on superbly refurbished railroad equipment including a WWI trench engine. They’re working on the last 10% of the mainline which includes a bridge over a small ravine.
BSA Railroad Merit Badge

It just so happened that we were in California when the San Luis Obispo Railroad Museum offered a class for Boy Scouts of America to get their Railroad Merit Badge. And, it just so happened that we have two grandkids who are just getting started in Scouting. Match made in heaven! All Aboard!
The rails of a railroad track are kept shiny on the top by the regular passage of trains. Thus, "To Shiny Rails" is the battle cry of my personal effort to keep railroading activities of all kinds available to as many people as possible.
